Promotion of artistic activity

Work scholarship and professional development

Each year the city of Munich supports professional education of artisctic activity and development of a new artistic concept up to the maximum amount of EUR 8000 when artistic success has already been achieved with confirmed professional activity.

Artists in the field of theatre and dance, young or established, with permanent residence in Munich and its region may apply. There is no age limit. A jury evaluates proposals submitted according to the guidelines of promoting current performing arts.

Application deadline is December 1 for the subsequent year.

Starting your artistic career

Each year, also, the city of Munich supports first specific and promising professional projects up to the maximum amount of EUR 18.000 in order to make professional artistic activity easier after education and graduation (Debutförderung).

Young professionals in the field of theatre and dance with permanent residence in Munich and its region may apply (Munich S-Bahn area). A jury evaluates proposals submitted.

Application deadline is December 1 for the subsequent year.

Coronahilfen - financial help

IMPORTANT: the following is the filed information concerning the past measures !

Important information and your responsability regarding Überbrückungshilfe and Neustarthilfe

Application for Überbrückungshilfe can only be submitted through checking third party (e.g. tax consultant). Please note, a final tax statement including possibly received financial help will be made.

As for Neustarthilfe, direct application and through checking third party (e.g. tax consultant) is possible. Please note, a final tax statement including possibly received financial help will be made. In case of direct application, you are obliged to submit your final tax statement for Neustarthilfe 2022 by September 30, 2022 at the latest. You will receive a notice on conditions for any applicable repayment. Direct applicants can make the repayment by December 31, 2022.

Überbrückungshilfe III

In case of loss in revenue of at least 30 %: Freelancers may apply for so called Überbrückungshilfe III for the period from November 2020 to June 2021 and receive a grant for their fixed costs, depending on their loss and up to the legal maximum. Benefits from Überbrückungshilfe II for November and December 2020 will be deducted.

Application through tax consultant, lawyer, accountant, sworn auditor (checking third party).

Überbrückungshilfe III Plus

Financial help will be continued with Überbrückungshilfe III Plus for the period from July up to and including September 2021.

Application deadline for initial application or amendment extended to October, 31, 2021.

Überbrückungshilfe IV

Financial help will again be continued in case of loss in revenue of at least 30% due to Corona measures - based on reference month in 2019, and grants can be up to 40%, up to 60% in case of loss in revenue of 50 to 70%, and up to 90% in case of loss in revenue of more than 70%.

Industry-specific special regulations may apply (e.g. event and cultural industry: downtime and preparation costs in the period from September to December 2021).

Equity grants can be paid depending on a defined amount of loss in revenue in December 2021 and January 2022.

For self-employed – Neustarthilfe

Many self-employed could not apply for financial aid as they work project related, employment times are too short for entitlement to unemployment benefit, and regulations for Überbrückungshilfe III are not applicable.

Actors or musicians without permanent employment, and other short-term, not permanently employed artists may be concerned.

Application directly via online tool using Elster-Certificate for your identification (Elster: online tax office), or through checking third party (e.g. tax consultant).

Neustarthilfe Plus

Financial help will be continued with Neustarthilfe Plus up to September 2021.

Application deadline for initial application or amendment extended to October 31, 2021.

Neustarthilfe 2022

Financial help for self-employed will be continued, up to EUR 1.500 per month can be granted.
